Shawn Barrett is a licensed massage therapist specializing in Craniosacral Therapy. She has been practicing for over 10 years and continues to study and teach craniosacral therapy.

Craniosacral Therapy is a gentle, non-invasive bodywork modality with long lasting, positive results. It supports our own ability to deeply heal on many levels and return to our optimal state of health.

The craniosacral system consists of the cranial bones (head), the sacrum (tailbone) and the spinal cord, which contains our central nervous system.  The central nervous system is the information center for our entire body. We produce cerebral spinal fluid in the brain and it pumps up and down the spine, nourishing the central nervous system. This creates a palpable rhythm that is different than the heart beat or breathing rhythm, and can be felt anywhere in the body.

With gentle contact either on the head or the body, the practitioner feels for the quality of this rhythm. Then using subtle touch, helps the body to release holding patterns (resulting from injury, etc.) and supports reorganization.

Craniosacral Therapy can support healing of chronic pain, headaches, whiplash and other impacts to the body, neck and shoulder pain, low back pain, irritable bowel syndrome, depression, anxiety, to name a few. It is effective for healing after surgery or illness. Because it works with the nervous system, it promotes deep relaxation and decreases the impacts of stress on the body.

Almost everyone benefits from craniosacral work. Babies are a special delight for her to work with. The process of birth has quite an impact on the body and if we all received craniosacral within the first few months of our life, the world would be a happier place!

Shawn has office hours in Wallingford and West Seattle.

Aja Thomas has been a student, explorer and teacher in the areas of body, mind and consciousness for over thirty years. After intensive study, he was ordained as a Vedic Priest in India in 1975, spending several years as a celibate monk both in India and the United States.

He received a Doctorate of Naturopathy Degree from the International University in 1984, the title of Sanskrit Adhyapaka (teacher of Sanskrit) from the American Sanskrit Institute in 1990, and in 2003 was given the title Acharya (spiritual teacher) by Sri Acharya Rajendra of Sriji Temple in Vrndavana India.

Over the years he has extensively researched both Eastern and Western teachings on spirituality, religion and transcendence, personally explored the realms of consciousness and awakening and authored several books on health, spirituality and consciousness.

In 1990, through self inquiry, he experienced a permanent shift in his perception of reality, recognizing that Self of Absolute Consciousness from which all arises, and which permeates all things. This ever deepening experience of Self allows Aja to help guide others to this same awareness, and to recognize the truth of who they are.

Currently Aja teaches Self Inquiry as well as the Sanskrit language, in classes throughout the United States, Canada and Europe.
